Dental Sealants

Sealants are a thin plastic coating which is painted on the chewing surfaces of the teeth (usually the molars) to prevent tooth decay.

This is a quick and painless treatment and is completed in a single dental appointment by any of our dentists. The material bonds to the depressions and grooves of the teeth forming a shield of enamel on each tooth. Anyone can benefit from this treatment, and it is particularly successful for preventing tooth decay in children and teenagers.

The Process:

Teeth are thoroughly cleaned and dried

A curing light is used to help the sealant harden

An acidic solution is applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth to roughen teeth in preparation for bonding

Sealant is then painted onto the tooth enamel, where it bonds directly to the tooth and hardens
